Category Breakdown
LGBTQ+ Representation
The film lacks an explicit focus on queer narratives or non-cisnormative identities. Its scope remains centered on class and criminal justice rather than sexual orientation.
Gender Representation
Ramos provides a nuanced look at how gender intersects with state intervention. The film documents both male and female youths to avoid a monolithic view of delinquency.
Racial & Ethnic Diversity
The film excels by representing racialized bodies within the Brazilian state. Using community members to represent the accused highlights the visibility and erasure of Black and Brown bodies.
Religious & Cultural Diversity
The documentary critiques Western-style institutional structures and the legal system. It frames the criminal as a product of systemic failure rather than a moral vacuum.
Disability Representation
There is minimal evidence of neurodivergence or physical disability as central narrative components. The focus remains on socio-political conditions rather than medical or sensory disabilities.

AI Analysis
Behave (2007) is a powerful interrogation of the Brazilian judicial system. By replacing protected underage subjects with actors from marginalized communities, Maria Ramos shifts the focus from individual crime to systemic socio-economic pressures. The film's greatest strength is its profound centering of racialized and class-based identities. It uses the legal process to deconstruct institutional power and challenge traditional 'law and order' paradigms. However, the documentary lacks depth regarding specific identity-based narratives, such as LGBTQ+ or disability representation. It prioritizes systemic social critique over individual explorations of gender identity or neurodivergence.
