Love and Hate is a narrative of empowerment centered on collective resistance. It effectively challenges traditional gender roles by positioning women as the central drivers of political and physical combat against an oppressive force. The film excels in its depiction of women's ability to drive the story and ethnic autonomy. By focusing on Ukrainian women resisting an occupying military, the story moves beyond victimhood to showcase tactical leadership and communal strength. However, the film lacks visibility regarding LGBTQ+ identities and disability representation. The focus remains strictly on the socio-political struggle of the working-class collective.
