Apollo My Love is a progressive drama for its time, centering a gay protagonist against the backdrop of high-society capitalism. It effectively deconstructs traditional familial obligations and the rigid hierarchies of corporate Japan. The film's strength lies in its refusal to sideline its gay protagonist, instead making his identity the core of the conflict. However, the narrative remains culturally homogeneous, focusing on internal class struggles rather than broad ethnic diversity.
