Z32 is a complex documentary that avoids easy moral resolutions. It succeeds by interrogating the systemic structures of conflict and the ethics of representation through a self-reflexive lens. The film's strength lies in its refusal to provide simple answers. It uses the tension between the soldier, his partner, and the filmmaker to explore how truth fragments in polarized environments. While the film excels in cultural and ethnic engagement, it lacks representation for LGBTQ+ identities and individuals with disabilities. The focus remains narrow on the specific political and interpersonal conflict presented.
