Rip Smith's opinion-poll business is a failure...until he discovers that the small town of Grandview is statistically identical to the entire country. He and his assistants go there to run polls cheaply and easily, in total secrecy (it would be fatal to let the townsfolk get self-conscious). And of course, civic crusader Mary Peterman must be kept from changing things too much. But romantic involvement with Mary complicates life for Rip; then suddenly everything changes.

AI Analysis
Magic Town is a quintessential mid-century studio comedy that prioritizes conventional social structures. The narrative relies on established romantic tropes and a heteronormative framework typical of 1947 cinema. While the female lead possesses some agency as a civic crusader, the plot's central conflict involves managing her influence. This suggests a narrative controlled by traditional gender dynamics. The film's focus on a microcosm of America likely mirrors the homogeneous demographic standards of the era, offering little room for intersectional identities or diverse cultural perspectives.
