Category Breakdown
LGBTQ+ Representation
The film lacks any visible LGBTQ+ characters or narratives. The romantic focus remains strictly on the heterosexual bond between Jane and Rochester.
Gender Representation
Jane Eyre demonstrates significant intellectual and moral agency, refusing to sacrifice her principles for social standing. However, the film operates within a patriarchal framework without actively subverting gender hierarchies.
Racial & Ethnic Diversity
The production maintains period-specific homogeneity, reflecting Anglo-Saxon dominance. The narrative focuses on English class dynamics rather than engaging with colonial or racial diversity.
Religious & Cultural Diversity
The story is rooted in traditional Western institutions like the Church and rigid class systems. It critiques socioeconomic barriers through personal morality rather than systemic deconstruction.

AI Analysis
Zeffirelli’s adaptation is a faithful period drama that prioritizes historical accuracy over modern intersectional representation. It succeeds in portraying a woman of strong character and moral independence within a restrictive Victorian society. However, the film remains a traditionalist narrative. It adheres strictly to the social norms of its era, offering little in the way of racial, LGBTQ+, or neurodivergent diversity. While the struggle for individual dignity is central, the film lacks the subversive elements required to challenge the era's systemic hierarchies.
