Lost Kubrick is a specialized historical documentary centered on auteur theory and the mechanics of film production. Its primary goal is the academic preservation of Stanley Kubrick's unproduced filmography rather than social commentary. Because the narrative structure prioritizes the professional biography of a single historical figure, it lacks engagement with the way different parts of someone's identity overlap. The film functions as a scholarly retrospective on cinematic history rather than a tool for deconstructing social hierarchies. Consequently, the work lacks diverse character arcs or systemic critiques, resulting in a low diversity score that reflects its narrow, specialized focus on a singular Western icon.
Category Breakdown
The documentary focuses on Kubrick’s unproduced professional projects. There are no intentional LGBTQ+ character arcs or narratives that critique the assumption that everyone is straight or cisgender.
The film centers on the career of a male auteur. While female scholars may appear, the focus on Kubrick’s pursuit of perfection reinforces traditional creative hierarchies where men have control over the story.
This study of a Western cinematic icon lacks evidence of diverse casting in archival materials. The work appears to center on a homogeneous historical perspective.
The film operates within the framework of Western film history. It remains a neutral academic inquiry without prioritizing specific religious or anti-Western narratives.
There is no indication that the documentary addresses neurodivergence, physical disability, or mental health through a lens of ability to act or representation.

Official Synopsis
He is considered by many the greatest film director the medium has ever known. Yet in a 45-year career, Stanley Kubrick's films number only a dozen. That he strove for perfection is well established. What is less known is that he lavished years of energy on several films that never saw the flickering light of the silver screen. Through interviews and abundant archival materials, this documentary examines these "lost" films in depth to discover what drew Kubrick to these projects, the work he did to prepare them for production, and why they ultimately were abandoned.
