La cruz is a character study focused on personal and social disintegration. It successfully deconstructs traditional masculine competence by showing a protagonist in total professional and domestic collapse. This subversion of the 'stable provider' cliché offers a nuanced look at shifting social structures. However, the film lacks explicit breadth in representing multiple aspects of identity. The narrative prioritizes psychological realism and individual authority over systemic identity politics, resulting in a narrow focus on a single man's descent. While the film moves away from Hollywood-centric clichés by virtue of its regional context, it does not provide significant representation for LGBTQ+ or disabled communities.
