In relation to some of Pasolini's visits to Palermo for this last film, in 2000 Ciprì and Maresco shot Arruso, which begins with a phrase by Pasolini ("I banished the word hope from my vocabulary") and consists of imaginary interviews with some local characters who are presumed to have had homosexual relationships with the director. The two record the testimonies, sometimes affectionate others less, of those who had the opportunity to meet him and know the trends on the occasion of that trip.

The film centers its entire narrative on queer intimacy and identity. Through imaginary interviews, it explores non-heteronormative connections and subjective lived experiences rather than traditional romantic tropes.
Gender Representation
The work disrupts traditional hierarchies by focusing on a male-centric queer history outside the patriarchal family unit. However, the documentary format limits the breadth of gender subversion.

AI Analysis
Arruso functions as a transgressive piece of narrative architecture that rejects polished historical accounts. By centering on the intersection of queer identity and Pasolini's legacy, the directors prioritize fragmented, subjective truths over objective records. The film's strength lies in its refusal to provide mainstream social comforts. Instead, it explores the dissonant and complex realities of marginalized interpersonal histories through a non-conformist lens. While the film excels in queer and cultural subversion, its scope is inherently limited by its specific focus on historical figures and a localized Sicilian context.
