Mickey's Man Friday is a product of its 1935 era, relying on established animation archetypes. The story follows a standard survivalist framework that prioritizes the protagonist's role over the island's inhabitants. The film uses reductive stereotypes, particularly the 'cannibal' cliché, which reduces non-Western cultures to caricatures. This creates a narrative where the 'othered' characters serve primarily as obstacles or caricatures rather than individuals with ability to act. Overall, the work lacks complexity in representing diverse identities. It reinforces colonial-era storytelling conventions and traditional gender roles, offering little in the way of diverse or subversive representation.
