Like Grandpa, Like Grandson is a generational comedy that prioritizes cultural shifts over identity politics. It explores the friction between traditional craftsmanship and modern, structured education through the eyes of a young child. The film succeeds in giving narrative weight to non-institutionalized ways of life. It uses the conflict between Zika and Milan to critique the idea that modern progress is the only valid path. However, the film remains limited by its traditional patriarchal framework. It lacks complexity in representing different aspects of identity and focuses heavily on male-driven dynamics within a culturally homogeneous setting.
