AI Analysis
Scandal (1989) functions primarily as a period drama that deconstructs the rigid social hierarchies of Victorian London. While the demographic profile remains traditional for its setting, the film finds its progressive edge through thematic subversion rather than diverse casting. The narrative shifts power away from established male authority by highlighting the social maneuvering of women from marginalized backgrounds. This creates a dynamic where the 'stable' social order is revealed to be performative and vulnerable to scandal. However, the film remains limited by its historical focus, offering little in the way of queer representation or racial intersectionality. It prioritizes class-based friction and the critique of institutional hypocrisy over a broad spectrum of identity.
