AI Analysis
Beyond Evil functions as a standard genre-driven supernatural thriller of the early 1980s. It adheres to the era's conventions by centering a heterosexual couple and utilizing traditional horror archetypes. The film's approach to diversity is limited by its reliance on established tropes. While the Philippine setting provides geographic variety, the narrative often treats local mysticism as a source of terror rather than a complex cultural element. Ultimately, the film reinforces traditional hierarchies. It focuses on gendered vulnerability and the 'othering' of non-Western spiritual practices to drive its suspense.
