New Showbiz Analysis

Arthur Hailey's Detective is a conventional procedural drama that relies heavily on established genre clichés. The narrative structure is built around traditional Western institutions, particularly the Catholic Church and the legal system, which shape the film's moral framework. While the film offers a detailed look at a former priest's journey, it does not challenge or subvert social norms. Instead, it upholds existing hierarchies of religious and legal authority. The absence of diverse representation across gender, race, and identity suggests a focus on standard crime-mystery archetypes rather than inclusive storytelling.
