Presque comme les autres is a specialized study of neurodivergence that prioritizes the reality of disability over traditional melodrama. By focusing on the struggle for a diagnosis, the film highlights the gap between medical authority and lived experience. While the film excels in its portrayal of autism, it lacks diversity. The narrative remains rooted in a traditional, homogeneous family structure, offering little representation regarding racial, ethnic, or LGBTQ+ identities. Ultimately, the film's strength lies in its systemic critique of medical institutions, even as it operates within a conventional domestic framework.
