Shinji Aoyama’s drama focuses on the breakdown of traditional social structures and the struggles of individuals against systemic neglect. The film excels at depicting those living on the fringes of society, such as odd-job workers and undocumented immigrants. While the film effectively portrays socioeconomic precarity and cultural fragmentation, it lacks specific representation for LGBTQ+ identities and disabilities. The narrative is primarily driven by a male protagonist, which limits the range of gendered perspectives. Ultimately, the work serves as a critique of modern urban alienation. It succeeds in highlighting the vulnerabilities of the underrepresented, even if it does not explicitly address every dimension of identity.
