AI Analysis

The film succeeds in centering female agency through Maria Merryweather, who navigates a complex Gothic mystery with significant intellect. This provides a competent lead role that disrupts standard gender hierarchies within the genre. However, the production lacks intentionality regarding intersectional inclusion. The cast is overwhelmingly white, and the narrative adheres strictly to conventional Western storytelling tropes and heteronormative romantic structures. Ultimately, the film prioritizes established genre expectations over the representation of LGBTQ+ identities, diverse ethnicities, or disability, resulting in a narrow social scope.
