This adaptation of the classic Gothic horror cliché follows a standard investigative arc. The storytelling remains centered on a conventional male-driven psychological conflict, focusing on the duality of Henry Jekyll and Gabriel Utterson. The film lacks intentionality to disrupt established social hierarchies or promote multi-layered representation. It adheres closely to traditional literary structures and historical demographic expectations. Ultimately, the narrative does not utilize diverse representation or subvert systemic power dynamics, resulting in a very traditional presentation of the source material.
Category Breakdown
The story focuses on a traditional friendship and a single psychological transformation. There is no evidence of non-straight identities or narratives that critique the assumption that everyone is straight.
The narrative centers on male protagonists navigating a crisis of identity and morality. Female characters have limited influence over the plot.
The setting adheres to traditional demographic expectations of the source material. There is no evidence of a non-Anglo-Saxon majority cast.
The film operates within classic Gothic morality. The themes do not explicitly challenge Western institutions or religious structures.
The transformation into Mr. Hyde functions as a standard horror plot device. It lacks a character-driven exploration of disability with real influence.

Official Synopsis
Lawyer Gabriel Utterson is astonished to learn that his lifelong friend Henry Jekyll has apparently committed murder and suicide in the space of one night. A lengthy “confession” written in Jekyll’s own hand tells an incredible story – that Jekyll’s experiments had caused him to transform into a murderous character he named “Mr Hyde”.
