Sia, the Myth of the Python is a powerful act of cultural reclamation. By focusing on West African folklore and animist traditions, the film successfully challenges Western-centric storytelling norms and avoids common globalized clichés. The film's strength lies in its unapologetic African identity and its use of traditional aesthetics. It presents a world where spiritual and natural forces shape the stakes, offering a profound contrast to monotheistic storytelling frameworks. However, the film adheres to traditional social hierarchies. While Sia’s rebellion offers a moment of disruption, the overall narrative structure aligns with established patriarchal and monarchical power dynamics found in its mythological roots.
