New Showbiz Analysis

Palaver stands out for its progressive approach in 1970 by focusing on African protagonists in a European setting. However, the film adheres to traditional gender and sexuality clichés. Female characters are used more as visual elements than active drivers of the plot, and there is no visible LGBTQ+ representation or thematic focus. The film’s strength lies in its racial diversity and its challenge to colonial-era narratives, even if it doesn’t fully break new ground in other representation categories.
