Wang Tung’s drama is a powerful work of social realism that prioritizes the ability to act of a underrepresented woman. By centering on a survivor of human trafficking, the film challenges conventional expectations of familial and moral stability. The narrative succeeds in subverting traditional gender hierarchies. Instead of presenting a woman defined solely by her exploitation, it highlights her determination to transcend the oppressive structures that sold her into sex work. While the film lacks LGBTQ+ or disability representation, it offers a profound critique of the traditional family unit. It frames the family not as a source of support, but as a complicit force in the protagonist's exclusion.
