It disrupts monolithic imperial perspectives by centering the Ukrainian struggle for autonomy. However, the film remains limited by the patriarchal clichés of its era. Gender roles are defined by domestic conflicts, and there is no representation of LGBTQ+ or disabled characters. Ultimately, the film's strength lies in its cultural specificity, offering a nuanced perspective on political struggle against centralized authority.
