AI Analysis

Radu Jude’s historical drama is a sophisticated deconstruction of systemic power. By centering the Romani experience, the film moves beyond peripheral representation to make marginalized identity the core of its narrative critique. It successfully challenges the morality of 19th-century institutions. However, the film's impact is limited by its narrow focus on traditional hierarchies. The absence of LGBTQ+ narratives and the lack of female characters with significant agency prevent a more holistic representation of the era's social complexities. Ultimately, the film excels as a critique of racial and cultural oppression, even as it remains constrained by the rigid social structures it depicts.
