New Showbiz Analysis

Bostonian is a character study of a high-status serial killer that relies heavily on established cinematic clichés. The narrative centers on a singular, dominant male figure, limiting the scope of its social exploration. While the film attempts to challenge the 'perfect family' ideal by depicting domestic trauma and maternal abuse, it does so through a lens of individualistic dysfunction. This focus on a specific, wealthy archetype prevents a broader view of the city's landscape. Ultimately, the film lacks depth in representing multiple aspects of identity. It uses psychological instability as a tool for plot progression rather than offering a nuanced look at mental health or diverse social identities.
