AI Analysis

Sunil Dutt’s direction moves away from 1970s escapism toward social realism. The film engages with the systemic frictions of post-independence India by prioritizing narrative weight over traditional musical tropes. The strength of the film lies in its deconstruction of power dynamics. By centering on characters rejected by the mainstream, it challenges established social hierarchies and prioritizes the agency of the marginalized. However, the film remains limited by its lack of queer representation and its absence of disability narratives. It focuses primarily on socioeconomic and caste-based marginalization.
