Los mediocres is a sophisticated social critique that uses animalistic allegories to examine human flaws. By framing characters through animal metaphors like the scorpion or the turkey, the film avoids sanitized, idealized versions of social life. While the film lacks explicit LGBTQ+ or disability representation, it excels in its intellectual depth. It integrates various artistic disciplines to create a complex, non-commercial narrative structure. The film's strength lies in its willingness to challenge traditional authority and patriarchal structures, offering a critical view of social cohesion rather than a celebratory one.
Category Breakdown
The film does not include any explicit LGBTQ+ characters or narratives. It focuses on moral failings and social archetypes rather than exploring non-straight identities.
The film uses gendered archetypes, such as a gossipy woman, to critique social behavior. However, it also critiques patriarchal control through a father's refusal to accept his daughter's potential single motherhood.
The work centers a non-Anglo-Saxon perspective inherent to the Mexican film industry. It functions as a culturally specific exploration of Mexican social strata rather than following Hollywood-centric norms.
The film uses animalistic allegories to critique social institutions and traditional family units. This intellectualized approach challenges the sanctity of social hierarchies and the stability of professional environments.
There is no evidence regarding the portrayal of physical or neurodivergent disabilities within the provided material.

Official Synopsis
There was a brief period in the Mexican cinema, when intellectuals were invited to participate in the movie making industry, and the result was a very interesting mix. We could see painters as actors, sculptors as directors, and so on... In fact, in some scenes where a party or reunion are depicted, we can see a bunch of writers, painters, photographers, etc. This movie has 5 short stories in it. All picture mediocre people as animals. The turkey, the frog, the scorpion, the snake and the cockroaches can be seen here. The turkey is an abusive man who mistreats a good employee and makes him look bad in front of his coworkers. The frog is a man who is unappreciative to honesty, the scorpion is a father who rather see his daughter die than becoming a single mother, the snake is a gossipy woman, and the cockroaches are people who run and run not knowing exactly where to go.. I don't know why intellectuals stopped their collaboration with the movies to that extent, because it could have been very interesting their work together...
