Luis Rego’s comedy dismantles traditional domestic stability by emphasizing the varied identities of its female characters. Instead of being mere appendages to the male lead, the women are shown as independent professionals and creators. However, the film remains confined by its time period and scope. It lacks depth in terms of racial diversity and LGBTQ+ representation, sticking to conventional romantic themes and a localized Mediterranean demographic. Ultimately, the work explores moral relativism, trading rigid social structures for a personal exploration of desire, providing a moderate level of social subversion despite its limited demographic range.
