AI Analysis

Susan Seidelman’s direction transforms a standard mobster setup into a study of female autonomy. By centering on Cookie’s navigation of her father's patriarchal legacy, the film disrupts expectations of female passivity and victimhood. The film excels in its gendered subversion and its atmospheric portrayal of non-heteronormative social environments. It successfully challenges traditional social structures and the necessity of institutional alignment. While the urban setting provides a diverse cast, the narrative lacks deep intersectional focus. The story remains primarily anchored to the protagonist's immediate social and familial sphere.
