This documentary functions as a historical and political biography, prioritizing the socio-political movements of the Dust Bowl era. Its strength lies in its deep dive into class-based struggles and systemic critiques of economic structures. However, the film lacks contemporary representation of diverse identities. It remains anchored in the traditional demographics of the mid-20th century, offering little in the way of gender subversion or LGBTQ+ visibility. Ultimately, the film is a study of populist activism. It focuses on the economic displacement of the American working class rather than modern identity-based diversity.

Official Synopsis
Every American who has listened to the radio knows Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land." The music of the folk singer/songwriter has been recorded by everyone from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to U2. Originally blowing out of the Dust Bowl in Depression-era America, he blended vernacular, rural music and populism to give voice to millions of downtrodden citizens. Guthrie's music was politically leftist, uniquely patriotic and always inspirational.
