The film functions as a classic period melodrama, emphasizing romantic conflict and class tensions over social subversion. While it challenges the morality of the ruling class, it does so within a framework that reinforces traditional hierarchies. The narrative relies on established 1920s clichés, where women's ability to drive the story is often constrained by male authority. The central tension between individual desire and aristocratic structure serves the plot without offering deeper multi-layered complexity. Ultimately, the film explores interpersonal drama and social status. It lacks the diverse representation or systemic critique needed to go beyond the standard romantic conventions of its era.
