Michael Snow’s experimental work operates entirely outside the realm of traditional representation. By using a robotic arm to capture the Quebec wilderness, the film emphasizes the mechanics of the lens and the physics of the frame over human-centric storytelling. Because the film intentionally avoids depicting human subjects, it does not engage with storytelling that reflects multiple aspects of identity or character-driven ability to act. Instead, it is a formalist experiment that focuses on the structural properties of the cinematic medium rather than social identity. While the work lacks social commentary, its rejection of anthropocentric morality provides a unique, albeit neutral, aesthetic perspective that deconstructs conventional spectatorship.
