The film operates as a traditional comedy of manners, using a clash of cultures between a puritanical American and a French family. The narrative relies on situational irony and interpersonal misunderstandings rather than a deep social critique. While the film introduces international dynamics through a Western-centric lens, it does not engage with diverse identities. The conflict remains rooted in the friction between different modes of Western social conduct and professional reputation. Ultimately, the work adheres to the comedic clichés of 1968, prioritizing character-driven humor over progressive social restructuring or the disruption of traditional hierarchies.
