There You Are disrupts conventional romantic clichés by placing a queer experience at the center of the narrative. The film gives real power to its protagonist, Ray Dalton, moving him from the periphery to a position of central importance. The narrative explores the tension between individual identity and traditional romantic structures. By focusing on the obstacles Ray faces when pursuing men in existing relationships, the film offers a nuanced look at queer social dynamics. While the film provides a strong foundation for sexual orientation representation, it lacks information regarding racial, ethnic, or disability-related diversity. The scope remains focused on subverting traditional romantic trajectories.
