The Author's Crime is a traditional mid-century European thriller. The plot centers on domestic instability, financial crisis, and a series of thefts and murders. It adheres strictly to the genre clichés of its time. The narrative lacks intentionality in addressing social disruptions. Instead of deconstructing systemic hierarchies, the film focuses on localized tensions involving family disapproval and economic hardship. Ultimately, the film reflects the demographic and social homogeneity typical of 1970s Italian regional cinema, prioritizing conventional drama over progressive representation.
