  • The narrative lacks LGBTQ+ representation and diverse racial or ethnic casting.
  • The story reinforces traditional religious hierarchies rather than offering a critique of systemic structures.

AI Analysis

Spirits operates within the conventional frameworks of 1990s supernatural horror. The narrative prioritizes established religious and gendered tropes, focusing on a male protagonist's quest for redemption within a traditional institution. The film adheres to the social and narrative constraints of its era. It lacks intentional efforts to disrupt social hierarchies or provide intersectional representation, instead relying on standard genre archetypes. Overall, the work functions as a traditional genre piece that reinforces existing moral and gendered structures rather than deconstructing them.
