The film operates within a conventional 1970s science fiction framework, emphasizing mystery and political suspense over social representation. The narrative is centered around a male-centric political crisis and a medical conspiracy, limiting the scope for diverse character studies. While the setting in New Mexico provides a backdrop for potential cultural variety, the story remains anchored in established Western power structures. The themes of institutional skepticism offer intellectual depth, but this does not translate into multi-layered character diversity. Ultimately, the film uses disability and institutional power as plot devices rather than tools for social commentary, adhering to the standard thriller clichés of its era and lacking the specific character depth needed for a more progressive score.
