Louis Feuillade’s early fantasy work relies heavily on the conventions of the era, focusing on a singular romantic arc between a man and a supernatural being. The narrative structure prioritizes traditional social hierarchies and the assimilation of the 'other' into a civilized setting. While the film introduces magical realism, it lacks complexity in reflecting multiple aspects of identity. The story primarily serves as a romantic fantasy that reinforces the period's standard gender roles and homogeneous casting practices. Ultimately, the film's reliance on established fairy-tale clichés limits its diversity, as it does not challenge the social or cultural norms of the early 20th century.
