New Showbiz Analysis

Alma Viva is a character-driven drama that dismantles traditional social and familial norms. It emphasizes the female experience, using generational connections to challenge established hierarchies and communal traditions. The film excels in critiquing cultural norms, reframing underrepresented spiritual figures against the backdrop of dysfunctional family structures. This thematic depth offers a sophisticated exploration of individual truth versus organized community expectations. However, the film lacks broader diversity. It maintains a localized Portuguese focus without explicit LGBTQ+ representation or multi-ethnic casting, limiting its scope to specific cultural and gendered perspectives.
