Category Breakdown
LGBTQ+ Representation
The film lacks LGBTQ+ characters and does not explore non-heteronormative identities. Interpersonal dynamics focus strictly on species-based conflicts without queer subtext.
Gender Representation
Selene serves as a powerful protagonist, driving the combat and tactical decisions of the story. This subverts traditional masculine leadership roles and avoids the damsel in distress trope.
Racial & Ethnic Diversity
The cast is predominantly white, offering little ethnic variety. The supernatural species used in the film do not serve as proxies for racial or ethnic diversity.
Religious & Cultural Diversity
The narrative critiques institutional corruption through the unethical experiments of the Antigen organization. However, it relies on standard mad science tropes rather than systemic social critiques.
Disability Representation
There are no prominent depictions of visible or invisible disabilities. Neurodivergence and chronic illness are not used as central character drivers or plot devices.

AI Analysis
Underworld: Awakening is a genre-focused action film that finds its strength in gender agency. By centering the narrative on Selene, a female warrior, the film successfully challenges conventional hierarchies of strength and leadership. However, the film lacks intersectional depth. The world-building is demographically homogeneous, and the story remains focused on stylized supernatural warfare rather than exploring complex identity politics or diverse social frameworks. While the critique of scientific authority provides some thematic weight, the film misses opportunities to engage with broader racial, cultural, or LGBTQ+ perspectives.
