The film is a psychological study of autonomy centered around a female protagonist designed to transcend her era's limitations. It excels at deconstructing traditional social and maternal roles, offering a sophisticated critique of established hierarchies. However, the narrative remains narrow in its scope. The focus on early 20th-century Spanish social dynamics results in a lack of racial and LGBTQ+ representation. Ultimately, the work is a progressive character study that prioritizes gender ability to act and cultural subversion over broad demographic diversity.
