Aisha is a character-driven drama that emphasizes the psychological journey of a West African refugee. By focusing on a Nigerian protagonist in Ireland, the film goes beyond traditional Western-centric storytelling to explore the complexities of the African diaspora. The film effectively critiques institutional authority, presenting the asylum system as a source of tension rather than protection. This approach blends racial identity with a critique of the bureaucratic machinery that governs displaced populations. While the film excels in racial and cultural depth, it remains centered on a traditional romantic arc. The lack of visible LGBTQ+ representation or disability narratives limits its scope across other diversity metrics.
