Synopsis

Literal and creationist interpretation of the Bible is the fastest-growing branch of Christianity in the U.S. This film takes an in-depth look at the views of these Christians who reject Charles Darwin's theory of evolution--while also examining how Darwin handled the question of God himself as he developed his theory of natural selection in the mid-1800s.

Strengths

AI Analysis

Questioning Darwin functions as a dialectical inquiry into the friction between scientific natural selection and religious literalism. The film's architecture focuses on epistemological conflict and how different groups define truth, rather than character-driven identity politics. Because the narrative prioritizes a specific theological-scientific debate, it does not actively engage with the representation of marginalized identities. The film operates within a framework of intellectual inquiry rather than social justice storytelling. Ultimately, the documentary lacks the subversion of traditional social hierarchies necessary to score highly in diversity metrics. It remains a topical study of a specific American cultural tension.
