Beasts of No Nation showcases a stark contrast in its portrayal. It excels in racial authenticity by featuring an entirely African cast, which avoids the white savior cliché common in Western war films. However, the film operates within a strict gender framework, emphasizing traditional patriarchal hierarchies and limiting women's roles. The narrative also lacks representation of LGBTQ+ identities or narratives. Ultimately, the film's strength lies in its post-colonial perspective, offering a nuanced exploration of systemic collapse and identity fragmentation, despite being confined to a hyper-masculine, militaristic worldview.
