Fair

Delilah Potts possesses significant economic and social agency as a ranch owner. However, the plot relies on a male drifter to catalyze her emotional upheaval, following conventional romantic tropes.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Limited

The narrative defaults to traditional demographic expectations without indicating a diverse cast. The rancher and drifter archetypes align with historically homogeneous, Western-coded demographics.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Fair

The film operates within a traditional Western ranch setting. While it explores dark, subjective moral landscapes, it lacks evidence of a broader anti-institutional or anti-capitalist critique.

Strengths

  • Delilah Potts is depicted with significant economic and social agency as a ranch owner.
  • The female protagonist disrupts traditional depictions of submissive femininity through her position of power.

Areas for Improvement

  • The narrative relies on conventional romantic tropes and male-driven emotional catalysts.
  • The film lacks racial diversity and intersectional complexity in its character archetypes.
  • There is no evidence of LGBTQ+ representation or queer-coded exploration.

AI Analysis

The Locusts is a character-driven drama that prioritizes individualistic romantic conflict over systemic or identity-based exploration. While it offers a degree of agency to its female lead, the film remains anchored in standard late-90s independent dramatic structures. The production lacks intersectional complexity, focusing instead on the personal history and passions of its central characters. It adheres closely to traditional genre conventions rather than subverting them. Ultimately, the film functions as a conventional romance and drama, lacking the diverse representation or social critique necessary for a higher progressive score.
