New Showbiz Analysis

The film successfully shifts focus from typical teen movie structures by highlighting women's ability to drive the story and leadership. By featuring an all-female ensemble, it emphasizes collective female empowerment and creative leadership. However, the specific identities of the characters remain somewhat ambiguous. While the cast is described as diverse, the lack of explicit detail regarding racial, ethnic, or LGBTQ+ identities prevents a higher score. Ultimately, the film provides a strong foundation for storytelling that reflects multiple aspects of identity through its ensemble cast, even if the identities are not fully defined.

Official Synopsis

Five vastly different high school girls are assigned to lead an anti-bullying assembly, and in doing so, accidentally form a girl group that they call Drama Drama. The assembly is a hit, and a classmate convinces them to form a real band. As they write songs together, play at the homecoming dance, and prepare for a concert outside school, the band must navigate their own teenage drama: boys they like, jealous 'frenemies', the stress of passing their final year, and deciding their futures.
