Synopsis

Pat Tillman never thought of himself as a hero. His choice to leave a multimillion-dollar football contract and join the military wasn't done for any reason other than he felt it was the right thing to do. The fact that the military manipulated his tragic death in the line of duty into a propaganda tool is unfathomable and thoroughly explored in Amir Bar-Lev's riveting and enraging documentary.

While it lacks representation for LGBTQ+ and diverse racial groups, it finds its power in challenging the sanctity of Western military narratives. The film's strength lies in its postmodern approach to truth. It moves beyond simple biography to examine how systemic structures manipulate individual experiences for propaganda. Ultimately, the documentary trades traditional diversity for intellectual depth, offering a rigorous investigation into power, accountability, and the failure of state transparency.
