Emmanuelle in Soho operates primarily as a genre-specific drama rooted in the clichés of early 1980s adult-oriented cinema. The film focuses on a narrow social circle, prioritizing commercial exploitation and character-driven conflict over progressive social commentary. While the setting of London's Soho district inherently touches upon underrepresented social spaces, the narrative lacks depth in exploring multiple aspects of identity. The characters appear to function within traditional social hierarchies rather than challenging them. Ultimately, the film lacks the intentionality required to disrupt standard narrative frameworks, resulting in a representation that reflects the homogeneous casting and traditional gender roles of its era.
