Salonwagen E 417 is a traditional historical drama that uses a Pullman car to trace shifts in social class. The story moves from royalty and military command to a circus and a museum, emphasizing material history over human diversity. The film adheres to a conventional mid-20th-century framework. It lacks representation of LGBTQ+ identities, racial diversity, or disability, focusing instead on the evolution of an object through established European social hierarchies. While the cast includes notable women, the narrative structure remains rooted in traditional power dynamics. The film serves as a study of historical progression rather than a vehicle for social subversion or underrepresented perspectives.

Official Synopsis
In a transport museum, the items on display begin to tell their stories. Most interesting is the history of the Pullman car. In the beginning, it served as transport for a princely family; then became the headquarters car for the military high command; and then, most adventurous of all, it ended up with a circus. Converted to a bar, it finally had its day and was supposed to serve as a placard carrier. Luckily, the museum saved it from this sad fate.
