AI Analysis

Rockers serves as a vital piece of cinematic ethnography, centering the lived experiences of the Kingston working class. It successfully disrupts Western-centric perspectives by prioritizing Black agency and cultural authenticity over commercial interests. While the film achieves high marks for racial and cultural representation, it remains limited by the gendered social structures of its historical context. The focus on hyper-masculine musical circles leaves little room for female agency or LGBTQ+ narratives. Ultimately, the film is a powerful counter-narrative that explores post-colonial identity and the struggle for artistic integrity against capitalist structures.
