New Showbiz Analysis

Borderline succeeds as a genre-blending piece that prioritizes psychological complexity over traditional moral certainties. It effectively uses its horror-comedy framework to challenge established social and interpersonal hierarchies. The film's strongest asset is its subversion of gender roles, placing a female lead in a position of ability to act. It also provides a sophisticated, albeit dark, exploration of mental health and the fragility of social structures. However, the film remains limited in its explicit representation of LGBTQ+ identities or non-traditional gender characters, keeping that specific score in a moderate range.
